About Sports Media Huddle

Sports Media Huddle exists to help people build sustainable, credible careers in sports media, without guesswork, shortcuts, or false promises.

The sports media industry is competitive, fragmented, and constantly evolving.

Breaking in (and staying relevant) requires more than talent alone. It demands clarity, strategy, adaptability, and an understanding of how the industry actually works behind the scenes.

Sports Media Huddle was created to bridge that gap.

Through practical resources, career frameworks, and honest insights, SMH supports aspiring and early-career sports journalists, content creators, PR professionals, and communications specialists navigating modern sports media.

The focus is simple:

  • Real-world guidance over generic advice

  • Process over hype

  • Long-term career thinking over quick wins

From pitching and positioning to AI, ethics, and industry trends, Sports Media Huddle is built for people who want to take their careers seriously.

And do it the right way.

About Me

Hi, I’m Jon Turner, a sports media professional with more than 15 years’ experience across sports journalism and communications.

I began my career as a sports journalist and editor, working across major events, international competitions, and high-pressure news environments. Over more than a decade, I progressed into senior editorial roles, leading teams, shaping coverage, and overseeing content strategy.

In recent years, I moved into the sports media communications space, leading media and content strategies for major sports organisations, events, federations, and governing bodies.

Having worked throughout the media ecosystem, I have a grounded, practical perspective on how sports media really operates and how it continues to evolve.

Sports Media Huddle reflects all of my experience, lessons, and insight. It is not theory-led. It is built from lived experience, industry realities, and a belief that strong careers are developed through clarity, consistency, and ethical practice.

Through this platform, I am passionate and determined to help the next generation of sports media professionals ready to shape the future of this exciting and dynamic industry.
